Ruby Rose Quits Twitter: 5 Reasons Why the LGBTQ+ Actor Left the App

August 26, 2020 By Cade Hildreth 1 Comment

Ruby Rose has been famous since her appearance in “Orange Is the New Black,” but she’s been out and proud since age 12. However, that’s not the real reason why “Ruby Rose Twitter” is trending on every social media platform.

What’s the latest gossip?

Sadly, Ruby Rose quit Twitter and fans want to know why. It was shocking, because she was a popular user on the platform and had amassed a die hard following.

Ruby Rose Quits Twitter

If you’re curious about what really happened and why, then read on for five reasons why the LGBTQ+ actress said “so long” to the app.

1. Ruby Rose Was Slammed For Not Being Jewish

Here’s the deal. When The CW network first announced that it was going to reboot the Batwoman franchise, fans celebrated its cast of a lesbian actress for the lead role.

But when they found out who was cast as the new Batwoman, “Gay Twitter” immediately dragged Ruby Rose for not being a Jewish actor.

The reason for this response was that the modern Batwoman describes the hero as being of Jewish descent. Those that expressed concern worried that the network would erase or ignore the character’s important heritage.

Thankfully, as fans of the actress Ruby Rose know, she’s a tough celebrity. Not one to back down for a fight, she claims that she isn’t concerned about all the hate mail from Twitter. How do I know this?

According to a recent interview with Buzzfeed, Ruby Rose shared that, “I didn’t really care because I worked really hard to get the role…I’m not going to be on my deathbed wishing that people on the internet liked me more.”

2. Fans Claimed Ruby Rose Wasn’t “Queer” Enough

Okay, it’s clear that some fans hated the “Ruby Rose Batwoman casting” thing, but why?

Apparently, fans of The CW also claimed that Ruby Rose wasn’t “queer” enough to play the role of the first lesbian superhero, Batwoman.

As an LGBTQ+ celebrity who identifies as both genderfluid and lesbian, it might seem shocking that her own fan base would even accuse her of this. However, some fans have surprisingly stated that they didn’t even know that she was queer.

3. She Felt Ditched By the LGBTQ Community

In a series of Tweets, Ruby expressed that she didn’t feel supported by the LGBTQ community, especially of the women involved in it. Expressing frustration at being labeled “too gay” at first, she appeared to be frustrated by people who are now saying that she’s not “gay enough.”

Sharing that she felt “torn down” by “women and the LGBT community,” Ruby Rose wished that everyone was much more supportive and kinder to each other.

Claiming that she’d had a rough month, it seems like quitting Twitter could be have been just what she needed to refresh her mental health.

4. Fans Wanted Another Actress to Play Batwoman

According to the recent hashtag, some fans on Twitter stated that they wanted to see another actress play the role of Batwoman. Who would be better than Ruby Rose to play the role, you ask?

Apparently, the Internet was gunning for Ashley Platz, “Big Legend” actress, to get the coveted part.

That’s when Ruby Rose tweeted the sad news that we’re talking about. She wrote that she would be taking a “break from Twitter to focus all my energy on my next 2 projects.”

With at least two more big-budget projects on the horizon, it’s no wonder why she needs a break from the haters. New projects like SAS: Red Notice and The Doorman will definitely keep her busy.

5. She Was Already Planning to Quit Twitter

As mentioned above, it could be that Ruby Rose was already planning to quit Twitter before the backlash began.

Since she was spotted on the set of Warner Bros. for another big paycheck project, there’s evidence to believe she may have needed a break to focus on rehearsing lines or shooting scenes.

Either way, it appears that her choice to quit Twitter might have been correlated with freeing up time to focus on what matters most―her career.

On top of quitting Twitter, Ruby Rose tightened the comments setting on her Instagram account. Of course, this limits the number of harsh comments that online trolls can make.

Bonus Reason: Ruby Rose Was Injured On-Set

Another reason why Ruby Rose may have quit Twitter can be traced to a “stunt injury” on the set of Batwoman last year. Sadly, she shared on social media that she had herniated several discs and almost had her spinal chord severed!

Due to this heinous injury, it’s no wonder that Rose would walk away from the set of Batwoman.

Thus, quitting Twitter may simply have been a no-nonsense way for her to avoid judgment and backlash around this decision.

One thing is for sure, Ruby Rose is a talented artist who knows how to stay busy. With multiple film roles on the horizon, don’t be surprised when you see her on the big screen soon.

Despite the fact that she won’t be tweeting about it, chances are you’ll be well aware!

The Real Reason Ruby Rose Quit Twitter?

Still wondering why Ruby Rose quit Twitter?

Put simply, there were plenty of potential motivations as to why Ruby Rose would quit Twitter. From being slammed for not being Jewish to being hated on for not being gay enough, Twitter fans dragged Ruby Rose through the ringer. She’s also balancing an impressive number projects and priorities.

I think there was some serious sexism going on at the cw. I saw an interview where ruby said the cw wouldn’t put a zipper in her Batwoman costume so she could use the bathroom when all the men had one.
As a woman I can speak to what it feels like to be shamed about having to use the bathroom. Instead of giving her a zipper to pee they made her take off all the layers and it takes a long time. I can imagine that would be a deterrent for a person with a smaller bladder to have to take work breaks to pee aka women.
I can imagine that if that basic form of torture and shame is being used on set that there is a lot more to the story than her having an injury.
I also heard that often women are expected to do their own stunts and get paid less than men who don’t do their own stunts.

With anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-trans legislation on the With anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-trans legislation on the rise, I have enormous RESPECT for people for are taking action to support our communities. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Putting this into action are Dr @EricCervini, an author and historian, and his partner @Adam_Powell. Together they will be driving a bus full of banned #queerbooks across the U.S., starting this summer!

I absolutely love this idea—and can't wait for them to swing by Virginia!

From an article shared on XtraMagazine.com:

“With LGBTQ2S+ books under attack in the U.S. at record rates, author Eric Cervini and his boyfriend, actor Adam Powell, knew they wanted to take action. While others are organizing with protests, drag queen story hours, days of reading and other important acts of resistance, Cervini and Powell have their own spin on what to contribute to the movement—and that spin has wheels.

The pair are working on buying, then building, what they call the Rainbow Book Bus, a bookmobile carrying queer and trans books to small towns.

After reaching their crowdfunding goal of USD $100,000 at the end of December, Cervini and Powell are now able to pay a specialized company to retrofit a school bus to become a beacon of queer literature.

‘Our goal is to have at least an early version of it ready by Pride [in June],’ Cervini tells Xtra. ‘We want to have a bus that is converted—it may not be fully decked out, but it will be functioning as a travelling book shop/book fair—in the summer of 2023.’”

If you'd like them to visit your town, share it in comments! 🌈🚌
