Ruby Rose is from Melbourne, Australia. She was born in 1986 on March 20th. She’s very close with her mother and she sees her as a role model.
Her godfather was none other than the late Lionel Rose, an Australian boxer.
1. Namesakes
When you hear Ruby Rose, you may think that it’s an oddly perfect name. We all know that no two actors can have the same screen name. So Ruby Rose seems like a great stage name, right?
Lucky for Ruby Rose, that’s her actual name! From the moment she was born her full name has been Ruby Rose Langenheim.
2. Sexual Orientation
Ruby Rose is a known member of the LGBTQ+ community. According to her, she has been out since she was 12.
As well as being a proud lesbian, Rose has also come out as gender fluid.
What is gender fluidity you might ask? Typically when one is gender fluid, they don’t identify as any one gender. Their gender identity is fluid and not fixed.
3. She Makes Short Films
Among her many talents, Rose makes short films. She is best known for Break Free, a film that she wrote, produced and starred in that explores gender barriers and gender identity.
It is self described by Ruby as a “short film about gender roles, trans, and what it is like to have an identity that deviates from the status quo.”

4. She’s Not Just An Actress
Most may know her from her work on Orange Is the New Black, John Wick: Chapter 2, or even Pitch Perfect 3, but that’s not her only trick.
Ruby Rose did some modeling at the start of her career for Girlfriend Magazine Model Search. She ended up finishing as a runner-up which quickly earned her much deserved attention, bringing her into the spotlight.
Rose was also a well-known DJ for MTV Australia AND was a talk show host for The 7pm Project. Alongside both of these, Rose spent some time as a studio artist, releasing her single Guilty Pleasure back in 2012.
5. Ruby Rose and the Chocolate Factory…Almost
While not currently in a relationship, Rose was in a long-term relationship with Phoebe Dahl and the two were even engaged. They also started an ethical eco-clothing brand together.
Phoebe Dahl is a known fashion designer, but also the granddaughter of Roald Dahl—the author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
While Ruby Rose and Phoebe Dahl did have a nice run, in the end, they couldn’t find that golden ticket.
6. Hello Gotham City… And Goodbye
Did somebody say “Gotham”? If you didn’t know, Ruby Rose was cast as the CW’s Batwoman back in August of 2018.
This was a big deal. Not only is she the first-ever live-action Batwoman, but she’s an LGBTQ+ icon. This was a win for so many people.
Everything was looking great until recently when it was announced that Ruby Rose would be leaving Batwoman and would not be returning for Season Two.
Why Would She Leave?
That is a good question. The answer given to the press was simple: she wasn’t happy.
Obviously, it’s hard to say if this was the real reason. After all, it’s a massive decision to leave a leading role—especially a groundbreaking one—so this answer seems a little too “buttoned up.”
Many people believe it was because of health concerns or maybe harassment. Rose suffered a frightening injury when performing stunts for Batwoman back in September of 2019.
She herniated two discs which almost severed her spinal cord, which would have left her paralyzed. But Rose seemed to take the injury well and joked about it on social media.
Rose also underwent an onslaught of hate and harassment when she was cast as the Batwoman simply because she was LGBTQ+.
According to Ruby’s press team, she left because she didn’t like the workload. That may seem like a dumb reason to leave the show you’re starring on, but the shooting schedule for these shows is intense.
Even the Flash’s Grant Gustin has stated how many opportunities he’s missed because of how much of the year shooting “The Flash” consumes.
Since Rose is primarily a film actress, she may not have been used to the long, grueling hours.
And The Network?
Well, the CW has stated that it’ll simply recast her role for the second season, putting a new LGBTQ+ actor into the leading role. How the network will handle the abrupt recast of the star of its show?
While I’ve got no clue, it’ll certainly be interesting to see.
7. Mental Health
Rose is quite the advocate for combating mental illness. Rose herself has been very open with her mental illness history.
She struggles with depression and has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, but that hasn’t stopped her epic rise to fame.
8. Did Somebody Say Vegan?
Believe it or not, Ruby Rose is a vegan. Rose tells a story of when she was a kid she used to enjoy shark fin soup.
Upon asking about the ingredients, her mother lied. Eventually, Rose found out and refused to eat fish or meat ever again. She has now been vegan for many years and has no plans to stop.

Ruby Rose does have tattoos, yes. But, do you know how many she has? The Australian actress has over 50 tattoos! And each and every one of them has a meaning.
