If you’ve watched “Queer Eye” on Netflix, you know that Tan France is the go-to person when it comes to anything fashion. His tips focus on heightening the things you like about yourself to improve your self-confidence.

Want some more fashion tips from this fashion expert? Read on to learn how to improve your style and self-confidence with Tan France’s recommendations.

Who is Tan France?

Tan France is the fashion stylist of the television show “Queer Eye,” a feel-good makeover show on Netflix that focuses on making positive impacts in their straight client’s lives. He’s well-qualified.

Tan studied fashion at Doncaster College and then worked for Zara and Selfridges. He was later made company director of Shade Clothing.

In 2011, Tan launched a women’s clothing line called Kingdom & State. His company offers a range of clothing items including swimwear, dresses, skirts, tops, and layering basics. The company is focused on creating a one-stop-shop for women who want stylish, quality clothing.

1. Fashion Therapy

Throughout the show, Tan France stresses that fashion is a way to express yourself and to boost your self-esteem. You should only wear clothes that you feel highlight the features you love – don’t wear something just because it’s expensive, is a well-known brand name, or follows a trend.

You know you’re wearing a great piece of clothing when you feel strong and confident when you look at yourself in the mirror.

2. Style Evolution

Tan France has said that he doesn’t think he has a particular style – as the months and years progress, his style evolves. Sticking with one particular look can begin to feel as if you’re wearing a uniform. As your taste changes, don’t be afraid to change things up.

He also suggests that you learn new things along the way, like how to make a scarf or make/modify accessories, for example. According to Tan, learning how to create a few tasteful items will allow your personality to be on display.

3. Seek Inspiration

If you’re new to fashion, it can be hard to decide which clothes suit you best and which styles you really gravitate towards. Instead, find someone in the media who impresses you with their style or lifestyle, and then emulate it.

Tan France admits that when he was 17 and 18, David Beckham was his style icon. As he shopped, he asked himself whether he could see a certain piece of clothing on him.

4. The Perfect Jeans

Finding the perfect pair of well-fitting jeans doesn’t happen automatically. Tan France recommends getting jeans whenever you’re out clothes shopping and try on as many as physically possible. This is the only way to find a pair that fit you and suit your style well.

Tapered jeans around the ankle give you a classic look that you can wear during the day. They even make your legs appear longer.

5. Nude Heels

Tan believes that heels are empowering for feminine people because a comfortable pair forces you to stand up taller – chest out, head held high. Nude heels should be a staple part of every woman’s wardrobe because of their versatility – you can wear them in a cocktail dress as well as a pair of jeans and a blouse. Nude heels are also easy to find in any department store.

6. The Basics

Tan believe that masculine presenting people should have three or four basic items in their closet as they develop their wardrobe. They are:

  1. A dark suit (blue or navy)
  2. A good pair of jeans (that aren’t bootcut)
  3. A buttoned shirt (tailored to perfection)
  4. A great tee (that goes with the suit)

These four items will suit you for the majority of casual and formal occasions. The rest of your wardrobe items can build on these four main pieces.

7. Fancy Loungewear

No matter if you’re male or female, Tan France is all about the fancy loungewear when you’re at home with your partner. He believes that being comfortable in your own home while still making an effort for your loved one will do wonders for your relationship.

He admits that he often spends most of his day at home in a matching set of silk pajamas with a big silk robe over, and we know that Tan can pull the look off flawlessly.

8. The French Tuck

This wouldn’t be a good list of Tan France’s fashion tips without a mention to the French Tuck. If you’re wondering what this means, he’s referring to the technique of slightly tucking in your shirt or blouse into your pants or skirt. It gives you a laid-back but polished appearance that also helps you look taller.

The French Tuck can be used with any top – even with sweatshirts. It’s a simple technique that takes only a few seconds to perfect.

9. No Capri Pants

Tan France hates capri pants, and there’s a good reason why. Capri pants just aren’t flattering for any kind of body type. This is because it typically cuts at the leg at the top or middle of your calf, making you appear shorter with stumpy legs.

Many of them flair out below the knee as they end, giving your leg a wide, unnatural shape. Last but not least, designers tend to add embellishments that do nothing for your figure – such as oversized pockets that go over your thighs, cargo straps, and chunky zippers.

All of these embellishments make your legs appear heavier and take attention away from your figure.

Fashion Tips to Improve Your Style

As you can see, Tan France’s fashion tips are simple, effective, and easy to implement for everyone. But the underlying message is that fashion should be in service to your self-confidence.

Clothing should express yourself and help you feel comfortable, confident, and bold. Once you prioritize wearing clothing that flatters the features you love, your wardrobe becomes simplified, and shopping for clothing becomes an easier process.

Erin and I are smiling in this photo, but only a few times in my life have I been so devastated, so heartbroken, so utterly and emotionally broken.

When this photo was taken, we had recently had to say goodbye to our dearest, move beloved baby, Percy, who we had raised since adopting him at birth. He was our cherished companion, a therapy dog, and our beloved friend.

The last photo was taken on our very last walk ever with him. 🐾👣🥺

This post is a reminder to be gentle with each other, because this human experience is extremely painful … and we’re all in it together. 🐶🌎❤️
