6 Little Known Facts About Brendon Urie Usually Kept Under Wraps

August 6, 2020 By Cade Hildreth 1 Comment

Facts about Brendon Urie can be hard to come by, as he is notoriously close-lipped about much of his life.

Ever since 2004, Panic! At The Disco (PATD) has been a staple in the alternative rock scene. The band is most well known for the unique voice of their lead singer, Brendon Urie.

They’ve experienced their highs and lows ever since, bouncing on and off the top 100 charts since their initial rise to fame.

However, there has always been one constant for PATD: Brendon Urie.

Today, he’s the only original member that’s still in the band.

Facts About Brendon Urie

Want to learn more about the personal life of this iconic star? Here are six little-known facts about Brendon Urie that you may not have known.

1. He Has a Huge Tie to Fall Out Boy

Some of you have probably heard Brendon Urie make his imprint on several Fall Out Boy properties in the past. He’s appeared in their music videos such as “A Little Less Sixteen Candles, a Little More Touch Me” and “What A Catch, Donnie”.

However, Brendon Urie and Panic! At the Disco’s connection to Fall Out Boy, mainly their bassist Pete Wentz, is far deeper than that.

Back in the day, Brendon Urie and Ryan Ross (PATD’s lead guitarist) sent a demo of some of their songs to Wentz. Wentz then signed them under his Fueled By Ramen label, and the rest is history.

Ever since then, these two bands have been heavily tied. Brendon Urie has appeared on a few FOB tracks and has paired with Patrick Stump (FOB’s lead singer) on The Cab’s song “One of Those Nights” on their original album.

2. He’s Appeared on Broadway

Watch one clip of a Panic! At the Disco concert on Youtube and you’ll know that Brendon Urie has a thrill for the theatrics. He’s an all-out performer!

However, back in 2017, he wanted to show off his talents and flair in a different fashion. He elected to place Panic! At the Disco on somewhat of a hiatus to pursue his dream of being a Broadway star.

He landed the lead role of Charlie Price in the Tony Award-winning musical known as “Kinky Boots.” This show features music by Cyndi Lauper, a GRAMMY winner herself.

3. His Voice Landed the Lead Singer Role

You’ve probably heard Ryan Ross’s voice on a few of Panic! At the Disco’s songs and thought, “he has a phenomenal voice for a backup singer.” Well, as it turns out, Ryan Ross was originally planned to be the lead singer.

However, after hearing Brendon Urie’s voice, Spencer Smith and Brent Wilson agreed that it was Urie who should take the lead role. They enjoyed his unique voice and swagger while taking the mic.

That said, Ryan Ross’s voice played a pivotal role in PATD’s success. You could make the case that, without such a powerful backup voice, Panic! At the Disco wouldn’t have been as unique.

4. He Refers to Himself as ‘Pansexual’

Ever since Panic! At the Disco’s rise to fame, many people have been curious about Urie’s sexuality. He’s been married to the beautiful Sarah Urie since 2013, but many people have still wondered if he’s bisexual.

Back in 2018, Brendon Urie set the record straight by coming out as pansexual. He said that, while he’s very happy with his marriage, he prefers to look at the beauty of the person, not their gender.

In an interview with Paper Magazine, he noted that “If a person is great, then a person is great. I just like good people if your heart is in the right place. I’m definitely attracted to men. It’s just people that I’m attracted to”.

Urie’s ability to see the beauty of other people is inspiring. He’s much like the multi-talented Dan Levy in that he supports the LGBTQ+ community and is a member of the LGBTQ+ community.

5. Brendon Was Raised a Mormon

Many people wonder about the Brendon Urie life story. Nowadays, he’s a brave performer who is forward-thinking and passionate about spreading love, but how did he get here?

That could have to do with Brendon’s experience with the Mormon faith. As a child, Urie’s parents raised him in the Mormon church.

However, at 17 years old, he decided to denounce the faith. After voicing his act of abandoning the faith, his parents kicked him out of the house.

This past experience could be a huge influence for the hit song “High Hopes,” in which Urie references believing in yourself when no one else will.

6. He’s Now the Only Band Member

Many lead singers these days decide to separate themselves from the band that made them famous to begin a solo career. However, Brendon Urie to the road that’s far less traveled on this front.

Rather than stepping out of Panic! and going his own way, he’s now the only remaining member of the band. That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, Ryan Ross, Spencer Smith, and Brent Wilson are no longer involved.

This has allowed Urie to step out into different avenues with Panic!. We’re now seeing the results of Brendon having only himself to represent in songs such as High Hopes and Dancing’s Not a Crime.

Erin and I are smiling in this photo, but only a few times in my life have I been so devastated, so heartbroken, so utterly and emotionally broken.

When this photo was taken, we had recently had to say goodbye to our dearest, move beloved baby, Percy, who we had raised since adopting him at birth. He was our cherished companion, a therapy dog, and our beloved friend.

The last photo was taken on our very last walk ever with him. 🐾👣🥺

This post is a reminder to be gentle with each other, because this human experience is extremely painful … and we’re all in it together. 🐶🌎❤️
